your biggest professional achievement? This is the eleventh of the series of typical interview questions. For each question we outline why the interviewer is asking the question and how the interviewee should respond to it.

Our suggestions should be treated as guidelines, always adapt them to your personal judgement of the situation and to your own particular experience and individual style.

11. What is your biggest professional achievement?

Why is this question asked?
  • To seek your own self-evaluation and self-awareness of own achievements
  • To assess your honesty – but also your judgement
  • To explore what you consider as important achievements
  • To see evidence of goal or results-orientation
  • To understand what is valued by you
  • To explore your own standards

How to Answer?
  • Be prepared with some examples of tangible, measurable, results and outcomes
  • Ensure achievements are aligned with what’s core to the job in question
  • Link to your own professional values and standards
  • Present examples that are real/authentic (e.g., setback with new innovation, or motivating/retaining a colleague)
  • Most examples should be career-related and/or professional
