Want to recruit better? Change your approach…….

by Paddy Collins on August 27th, 2015

A good start would be to put yourself in the shoes of a typical job applicant to your company. How are they treated, what is their experience?

Are there unnecessary delays, too much bureaucracy, too many interviews and little or no communication?

There may be a danger you’re putting off potentially good recruits rather than attracting them!

Here are some tips which might help…………..

1. Write succinct, accurate job descriptions that are not full of in-house jargon

2. Do not have unreasonable requirements which might exclude perfectly good candidates

3. Use a job title that makes sense and can be found easily by job searchers

4. If you have an automated recruitment system try to make it as personal, positive and simple as possible

5. Respond quickly to all applicants, either positively or negatively, so people know where they stand

6. Have friendly open interviews that are interactive and encourage candidates to show their true selves and capabilities

7. Provide early and helpful feedback to your candidates or to your recruitment agent

It really could be simple to recruit better people, and faster!
