The Challenge

A restructuring imposed on the corporation after a severe loss of revenues needed to be implemented. Torc Consulting Group was retained to plan and execute a positively focused support programme for staff departing from three locations in Ireland.

Torc Response

The initial phase focused on communicating a message to all employees affected by the downsizing that serious efforts were being made to help them find new employment.

We coached management personnel on handling employees in this environment and on the process which the company wished to implement.

A series of supportive interventions was put in train for employees. This included:

  • Career transition workshop
  • Interview technique training
  • Individual job search coaching

A unique feature of our involvement was the organisation of a series of jobs fairs for employees. These fairs were attended by most of the leading healthcare companies in Ireland, recruitment agencies and state development agencies.

Guest lecturers made presentations on:

  • Technology based business start-ups
  • Ireland’s healthcare industry
  • Structural support for entrepreneurs

The Result

The corporate change programme was delivered smoothly. This included the closure of one research facility; downsizing of administrative offices; mothballing a new production facility; and overall reduction of 250 in headcount.
