Related case studiesThe Challenge
In the context of some serious business challenges ahead, including relentless pressure in the marketplace on prices, quality and service, together with a step-change made in its scale of operations following a recent major acquisition, this client company wanted to reinvigorate the focus on performance management among its middle management cohort.
Torc Response
Torc worked with the client’s HR sponsor in the design of a 6-day management development programme for key management staff drawn from diverse operating locations & functions spread regionally. Following analysis with the internal Training Dept. of recent Training Needs Analysis & performance appraisal reports and taking soundings from senior management on the desired behaviours needed, an integrated programme was designed along 3 specific dimensions:
- Personal Self Management (3-day duration):
Self Awareness & Self Management
Stress Management
Career management
Assertiveness & Self Actualisation
- Organisational Effectiveness (2-day duration):
Performance Management
Emotional Intelligence
Feedback & Development
Coaching Skills for Managers
- Review of Experiences (1-day duration):
Issues arising in practice
Revision master class
Advanced coaching tools
The Result
By carefully positioning performance management as a business process, involving non-threatening coaching conversations, the programme achieved very high levels of buy-in. And, feedback taken from participants 6 months after the programme ended, emphasised the resulting openness that was discernable in addressing issues as they arose.
